I Thought Those "Vacuums for Your Lawn" Were Just for Grass Clippings. I Was Completely Wrong.

When it showed up, I figured I knew exactly what it did. Sweep up grass clippings after I mow. That was it. A little vacuum for your lawn for the light stuff, nothing more.

The first time I pushed it across the yard, I found out how wrong I was.

I Figured It Would Push the Light Stuff Around and Leave the Rest

It did not. One slow pass and the grass behind me was just clean. It grabbed the grass clippings, the leaves I had been ignoring, the pine needles that slip through every rake I own, the little sticks, the pine cones, and every one of the acorns the tree dumps across my yard each fall. The strip behind me looked like I had worked on it for an hour. It took about two minutes.

There is nothing to using it, either. You spin a dial to set the bristles for how tall your grass is, ten settings in all, and push. The triple V-shaped brushes pull in whatever is in their path. No technique, no muscling it, no bad angles on your back.

Remember the Old Routine?

Rake everything into piles. Watch the wind drag half of it back across the yard. Get down on your knees stuffing damp leaves into bags until your lower back is on fire. Then haul the bags out to the curb and do it all again next weekend.

None of that anymore. When it fills up, you lift the bag out, tip it in the bin, and walk away. No kneeling. No stuffing bags. No aching back the next day.

And because it grabs all of it in one pass, what used to eat a whole Saturday afternoon now takes me about 20 minutes. My back does not hate me the next morning either. But that was just the bonus. The real surprise was how much this thing picks up.

The One Thing That Almost Stopped Me: My Sloping Lawn

Here is what nearly killed the deal for me. Everywhere I looked online, people said these do not work well on a sloping lawn. And mine has a real slope to it.

So I was skeptical. I set the bristles and ran it down the slope anyway, and it cleared everything just fine. The slope I had been so worried about turned out to be a non-issue.

Then There Were the Oak Leaves

My other hang-up was the oak tree in my yard. It drops these big, broad leaves, and honestly, I did not expect a sweeper to handle them. I figured they were too wide, and it would just push them around the grass.

I went with the 30-inch to be safe, and it grabbed every one of them in a single pass. If it handles big oak leaves, it will handle whatever your yard drops.
